Emmaus PA

A large borough located south of Allentown, Emmaus is a bustling town with a booming population, culture and economy. Founded in the 1740s, Emmaus was once a closed community of the Moravian Church and the land upon which it sat was donated to the church by two prominent members. With these religious roots, the town was named for the biblical village of Emmaus. The discovery of iron ore in the surrounding region spurred a period of significant economic growth for the community, and Emmaus became an open community soon thereafter in order to facilitate trade and manufacturing. During the early 20th century, the population of Emmaus nearly doubled, swelling to 11,313 residents. The contemporary population hovers around this figure. To add to its sterling reputation, Emmaus was listed as one of the 100 Best Places to Live in the United States by Money magazine in 2007 and 2009.
